Free Money

In doing research for my book, I've run across "free money" and want to tell you about it because...ta da!...you just might have "free money" available.
Today, just one suggestion: do an i-net search for your state Department of Treasury and  then look for "Unclaimed Property". It's entirely possible you've forgotten about an old savings account, an unclaimed security deposit, a corporation issued you a refund that was mailed to you at an address where you no longer lived or a myriad of other reasons.
For example, have you ever given the electric or propane gas company a security deposit? Did you always remember to collect that security deposit when you moved? Frequently, there are other things going on in our lives and we neglect to keep tabs of every detail. That's how our money ends up in the Department of Treasury, unclaimed.
This past year, I've spent untold hours working on Dave's estate and found more than a few hundred dollars, unclaimed, in the Virginia Department of Treasury!
I'm now working on having that money, with interest, returned to me. I also found money his mother had forgotten, a pitiful amount I'd forgotten...something like eleven cents which I told them to keep as it goes into the education pot...and other family members who have unclaimed money, waiting for them to complete the paper work and get a check.
So, if you decide to check your state Department of Treasury and find unclaimed money or property, please let me know. I don't want to know the amount, that's none of my business, but I am interested how many folks benefit by this post.
My guess is...lots!

Blessings ~ unclaimed property and money ~ me, for telling you about it - smile ~

Hello Sandra:
Would that the same applied in the United Kingdom although we suspect that many of the banks have 'forgotten' accounts and that HMRC most likely has large sums of unclaimed tax rebates in its coffers.

Hello there Sandra! Hope you're keeping well. So sorry I haven't been around and commenting on your posts lately. I have missed reading them though.
We do have a similar thing with unclaimed monies here in Australia, that we can find in a govt dept called The Public Trustee. My sister found a couple under my name but when I checked the postcode(zip) they weren't in areas that I've ever lived! Drat!! :))
Take care. ♥

Oh my, I saw the picture of money and just HAD to drop by! Dang, wish it was real. :)
Years ago I too found "unclaimed property" belonging to me from other family members. (It's a tiny family.) Hope your suggestion helps others find their missing loot.
God bless ~:)

I found four items for my friend, I let her know, not 100% sure it is her, but everything looks like it is. Thanks much! Plus one more besides for someone else, he will have to check on it too. Have a great week!
