Sabbath Keeping

"Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and
healing to the bones."
~ Proverbs 16:24 ~

If you can't say anything nice
Don't say anything at all.
~ Mom ~

For most folks, it doesn't cost anything extra to be nice.

"Not only do I think being nice and kind is easy, but being kind, in my opinion, is important."
~ Dwayne Johnson ~

"I still get weepy when I see a father being nice to his child. It so affects me." ~ Pat Conroy ~

"Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." ~ Mark Twain ~

Kindness is never wasted.

"Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." ~ Princess Diana ~

"Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate." ~ Albert Schweitzer ~

"Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them and they bless you, the giver." ~ Barbara de Angelis ~

"It's nice to be important
but it's more important to be nice."
~ John Templeton ~

"I'm just one woman away, my mother, from being the same as Mike Tyson. I would have ended up like him if my mama had not been so tough and strong. A lot of people, including Mike, don't know I came from the ghetto. They think I'm too nice and proper. But that's the way my mama raised me - to look people in the eye and respect them." ~ Evander Holyfield ~

"Wherever there is a human being,
there is an opportunity for a kindness."
~ Seneca ~

"Three things in life are important.
The first is to be kind.
The second is to be kind.
The third is to be kind."
~ Henry James ~

"Always be a little kinder than necessary." ~ J. M. Barrie ~

"There is overwhelming evidence that the higher the level of self-esteem, the more likely one will be to treat others with respect, kindness, and generosity." ~ Nathaniel Branden ~

"Be kind to one another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another
as God in Christ forgave you."
~ Ephesians 4:29 ~

Please pray for ~ Katie, JW  & Mason ~  and me, as there might be great change in my life ~

(Apologies all...my home internet isn't working and, lately, life is chaotic, thus, no blog updates nor blog visits and am at the county library doing this update.  I've used this time to take a vacation (see photo above and tell me where...), try and catch up with mowing, take a quick trip to visit family, celebrated July 4th and dealing with "the rest of life". To those who've written to say, "You're missed"...many grateful thanks and to those who've stuck with me...many grateful thanks. It's been a mess and as Dave would say, "Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you." As Julian of Norwich said, "All shall be well..." and so it is.)

    1. Hello Mildred and thank you for your kind note. Life has been full and heading for a crescendo. I'm hopeful the computer guy can get here this week as going to the county library isn't a viable option. You and John are in my prayers; God bless you.

  4. Good to see your post. My prayers are with you...as changes come. Were you in England? Not sure, but it was beautiful wherever you were!

    1. Gert, you're right! England, specifically the Lake District and it was fabulous! The best small group tour I've ever had...all I had to do was show up and be totally taken care of...well, except for that one day when I ditched the group and took the train to Edinburgh...wicked grin! God bless you!

  5. Have you been in the UK? If so, how marvelous! I've thought of you often, wondering how it's all going.

Pat Conroy's quote makes me so sad. I feel so bad that he didn't have a father's kindness at home.

And Evander Holyfield's quote, so glad to read that as I didn't know much about his private life--what a difference a mother's love and guidance can make in a child's life.

I am so thankful that my parents were kind people. My mother has been in a nursing home for 5 years and yet the staff all tell my sisters that she is the sweetest resident they have. That doesn't surprise me at all.

Blessings and love to you, Sandra,
    Dewena

    1. Hi Dewena, yes to UK, specifically the Lake District and it was, to use your word...marvelous! ASAP, I'll blog about it with photos and Conroy's quote made me sad, I wanted to weep with him (yes, I do know he's dead but...you know what I mean). As to Holyfield...I certainly didn't know and am impressed with the man he became. Speaking of, do you know about Keanu Reeves? He's overcome some incredibly bad things and has turned into a sensitive, kind, generous man. He impresses me...very much!

    2. No, I've not heard this about Keanu but that is good news and btw, this is the best kind of gossip--when someone passes on compliments about a celebrity, not the dirt. Well done!

  6. Sandra ~
Loved seeing Sabbath Keeping pop up in my email box this morning.
How perfect . . . and verses, quotes singing praise of being kind. Is there anything better than a random kindness, a "let me help you with that", fresh veggies at the door, a phone call, a message in an email box, no words, a huge, tight, long HUG . . . a look in the eye and truth.
What a "golden one" you are . . . Loved Dave's words/wisdom . . . (hope the bear isn't eating though!). Not sure where you traveled, northern England maybe, Ireland . . . Thinking of you, caring about you, praying for you . . . and for those "great changes in life." .
Nice and kind rings true . . .
    Love ~

    1. Hi Lynne, kindness is sorely underrated, isn't it? Recently, at the dumpster, a man pulled in behind me and he struggled out of his car. He was on crutches and I said, "May I help you with that?" He had one trash bag. He snarled..."I can handle it!" and then tried to take a swing at my dog. Gee...thanks for sharing but you can keep that crappy attitude. Just a nasty, nasty man; maybe he deserves those crutches, eh? lol xoxo

  7. Thanks for touching base, Sandra! I hope you are revitalized by your travels - I'll guess England - and I hope your path is smooth. Or at least, smooth enough!

    1. Yes, Quinn, it was the Lake District in England...Beatrix Potter's stomping grounds...as well as Wordsworth, Windermere, Keswick (the photo) and a lot of other places. I didn't go more than a 40 mile radius and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it ALL! I'm hoping for a straight path...smooth would be nice as well though...or maybe vice versa.

  15. Yeah, a trip. Happy you got away & enriched.

Pat Conroy. Hadn't seen that quote before. Seeing The Great Santini was liberating & terrifying. His father raged as my father did. Thought I was the only one dealing with that terror.

Past age 25, I came to the conclusion, can't blame anything on how you were raised. Get a move on, deal with it, make your own choices to be happy.

Stayed at a Ritz in Washington DC many years ago. Their staff, top to bottom, steeped in courtesy. From the heart courtesy. So much so, it felt biblical. What a leader their team had !

    1. Tara, I almost wept when I read Conroy's quote; to think of a father forgetting his place and taking his anger, frustration, failures, etc. on his child or wife...it's simply beyond my believing! Daddy was, and is, kind, considerate, thoughtful and only sometimes does he lose patience. He raised his hand to me, once, when I was growing up but his looks could murder - lol. He "let" Mom be the one who disciplined but she was also fair. I am so sorry you didn't have that kind of home life; I am so very sorry.
The Ritz...WOW! You're right...the speed of the leader makes the speed of the team...what a wonderful memory...I'm happy for you! XOS
