Sabbath Keeping

"If racing against mere men makes you tired,
how will you race against horses?"
If you stumble in safe country,
how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?"

"Our labor preserves us from three great evils - weariness, vice and want."
~ Voltair ~

"Negative people need drama like oxygen.
Stay positive. It will take their breath away."

"A work is never completed except by some accident such as weariness, satisfaction, the need to deliver, or death: for, in relation to who or what is making it, it can only be one stage in a series of inner transformations."
~ Paul Valery ~
"When everything feels like an uphill struggle
just think of the view from the top."

"As I thought of these things, I draw aside the curtains and looked out into the darkness, and it seemed to my troubled fancy that all those little points of light filling the sky were the furnaces of innumerable divine alchemists, who labour continually, turning lead into gold, weariness into ecstasy, bodies into souls, the darkness into God; and at their perfect labour my mortality grew heavy, and I cried out, so as many dreamers and men of letters in our age have cried, for the birth of that elaborate spiritual beauty which could alone uplift souls weighted with so many dreams." ~ W. B. Yeats ~

"Nothing can wear you out like caring for people."

"I am old, Gandalf. I don't look it, but I am beginning to feel it in my heart of hearts. Well-reserved indeed! Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread. That can't be right. I need a change, or something." ~ J. R. R. Tolkien ~

"When fearful, we have a choice:
Forget Everything And Run
or
Face Everything And Rise"

"God doesn't need more critics.
He needs more encouragers."

"You are brave, strong, capable, loving, kind, caring, faithful
Because God Is."

"Do what is right.
Not what is easy."

"God shows us He's in control
by putting us into situations
we can't control."

"On
the
straight
and
narrow
path
there
are
no
corners
to
be
cut."
~ Neal A. Maxwell ~

"For the one who is tired:
Dear heart: God does not say today, "Be strong!"
He knows your strength is spent;
He knows how long the road has been,
how weary you have grown;
for He walked the earthly roads alone,
each bogging lowland and
each long, steep hill He can understand,
and so He says, "Be still and know that I am God."
The hour is late and you must rest a while
and you must wait until life's empty reservoir's fill up
as slow rain fills up an empty upturned cup.
Hold up your cup, dear child, for God to fill.
He only asks today that you be still."
~ Grace Noll Crowel ~

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for,
but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for God's people
in accordance with the will of God.
And we know that in all things God
works for the good of those who love Him,
who have been called according to His purpose."
~ Romans 8:26-28

For more encouragement, please click here. A. J. Gossip, a Scotsman, wrote "BUT WHEN LIFE TUMBLES IN, WHAT THEN?" after his wife suddenly and unexpectedly died. A long read but well worth a moment of your time, especially if you are exhausted, tired, weary.

We Christians have the Trinity - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit - to help, heal, guide, intercede, strengthen. This week has been intense for so many (myself included)...Christians, in the name of Christ, coming against each other; satan coming against Christians; exhaustion and weariness overwhelming so many. We are in trying days and times; evil is on every side and sometimes we become so weary in 'fighting the good fight' we forget it's not in our strength that even the next breath is drawn.

In Him, we are able because God is able.

Sabbath Keeping

"I am weary, O God;
I am weary, O God,
and worn out."

"Our labour preserves us from three great evils
-- weariness, vice, and want."
"I am old, Gandalf. I don't look it, but I am beginning to feel it in my heart of hearts. Well-preserved indeed! Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread. That can't be right. I need a change, or something." ~ J. R. R. Tolkien ~
"Ah! when will this long weary day have end,
And Lende me leave to come unto my love?"
"If we want to get over being tired and weary, we have to learn how to go to God on a regular basis. The minute we feel like we can't take it anymore, we have to go spend a little time with him, read his word and talk to him in your prayers, he hears every words you tell him, just leave all your burden with him as soon as you tell him your troubles, feel the ease up on your shoulders, because he took your load of them, the pain in your heart ease up because he comforted you. What a friend we have in our Lord!"
~ Glen Rambharack ~
"Never flinch.
Never weary.
Never despair."
"When I consider how my light is spent Ere half my days in this dark world are wide. And that one Talent which is death to hide Lodged with me useless, though my soul more bent. To serve therewith my Maker and present My true account, lest He returning chide, "Doth God exact day-labor, light denied?" I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent That murmur, soon replies, "God doth not need Either man's work or his own gifts. Who best Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state Is kingly: thousands at his bidding speed, And post o'er land and ocean without rest; THEY ALSO SERVE WHO ONLY STAND AND WAIT." ~ John Milton, On His Blindness ~
"O weary hearts!
O slumbering eyes!
O drooping souls,
Whose destinies are fraught with fear and pain,
Ye shall be loved again."
"Fatigue makes cowards of us all." ~ Vince Lombardi ~
"Weary of liberty,
He suffered himself to be saddled and bridled,
And was ridden to death for his pains."
~ Goethe ~
"Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth, are never weary of life."
~ Rachel Carson ~
"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it." ~ Abraham Lincoln ~
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We shall remember them."
"Meaninglessness does not come from being weary of pain.
Meaninglessness comes from being weary of pleasure."
~ G. K. Chesterton ~
"How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a weary world."
"Courage brother, do not stumble, though thy path be dark as night. There is a star to guide the humble, trust in God, and do the right. Let the road be dark and dreary and its end far out of sight. Face it bravely, strong or weary. Trust God, and do." ~ Norman Schwarzkoph ~

"I will not wish thee riches nor the glow of greatness,
but that wherever thou go,
some weary heart shall gladden at thy smile
or shadowed life know sunshine for awhile.
And so thy path shall be a track of light,
like angels' footsteps passing through."
~ Blessing from a church wall in Upwaltham, England ~

"Come unto me
all ye that labour and are heavy laden
and I will give you rest."
