Actually, Pumpkin Flavored Everything is Here!

Not sure where I found this, nor the owner, but isn't it fabulous? Makes me smile each time I see it so if you know the owner, please let me know so I can give credit. Nor do I know the actor...probably someone extremely famous but what do I know, eh? The answer is...not much. -smile-

These mornings I drink pumpkin flavored coffee. Unfortunately flavored cream either has too much sugar or too many chemicals so I stick with flavored coffee with half and half as it's easier on my stomach. The pumpkin flavored almonds didn't make the cut; I found an opened container of them purchased last year and tossed them to the birds whoever would eat them.

"I like spring, but it is too young. I like summer, but it is too proud. So I like best of all autumn, because its tone is mellower, its colours are richer, and it is tinged with a little sorrow. Its golden richness speaks not of the innocence of spring, nor the power of summer, but of an approaching age. It knows the limitations of life and its content." ~ Lin Yutang ~

Like Lin Yutang, I like spring but it is a trifle fresh. I like summer but it is a bit bold and I even like winter but the gateway to winter, November, is not to my liking at all. It's not exactly cold enough for full blown heat but too chilly not to wear wool while the rain lashes at my face, tearing my hair from my hat and causing fierce mutterings. It's like February, except longer.

But like Forrest (which also happens to be Beloved's name) I like today best. "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."

November came in yesterday...cold, windy, raining...just like November so no surprise there. Today is much the same and tomorrow is voting...it's pure ugly in Tazewell County. People calling other people names, spreading lies, rumors and innuendos; everyone wanting their man or woman to win and willing to do absolutely anything to ensure the outcome. The thing that bothers me most is, so many people have no clue; they don't trouble themselves to learn anything about the issues because they vote party. "That's the way my family has always voted and that's the way I vote."

How vastly ignorant! They won't cross party lines even if the other person is better qualified, better educated, better spoken. No wonder this country and county are in trouble!

What's it like where you live?

"This is the treacherous month when autumn days
With summer's voice come bearing summer's gifts.
Beguiled, the pale down-trodden aster lifts
Her head and blooms again. The soft, warm haze
Makes moist once more the sere and dusty ways,
And, creeping through where dead leaves lie in drifts,
The violet returns. Snow noiseless sifts
Ere night, an icy shroud, which morning's rays
Wildly shine upon and slowly melt,
Too late to bid the violet live again.
The treachery, at last, too late, is plain;
Bare are the places where the sweet flowers dwelt.
What joy sufficient hath November felt?
What profit from the violet's day of pain?"
~ Helen Hunt Jackson, Autumn Sonnet ~

There's already been snow over the mountain; a skiff certainly, but still snow. The farm, house and animals are almost all ready for winter. Propane tank topped off, oil tank topped off, chimney swept and wood stacked in barn. The boys are bringing another load to stack on the back porch and I need to lay a fire to be lit in the wood stove.

I feel absolutely industrious...smile.

  1. We have had a mild November with above average temps for us here in the midwest. I am enjoy the 70 degree days but by the week end they are saying only in the 40's which is more normal for us. Happy New Week and Happy Fall.

  2. The actor is Sean Bean. The character he is portraying is Eddard Stark, from Game of Thrones by GRR Martin.

There, now I have shared some of the stupid trivia stuffed inside my head.

Voting in TX takes forever, as we no longer have a single election day. It's more like an election month, with "Early Voting". It certainly makes it simpler to vote. It also doesn't seem as pushy as you describe, though I think town-level politics are probably just as nasty, and many voters are party-line voters here too.

Late Oct and early Nov have been rainy and cool, at least for TX. Lots of rain, and the coolness is all relative. Leaves are dying on the branches, but we just don't get the lovely color changes here. I miss that.

Glad to see you have the farm ready for winter already. You may need all that wood this year! Stay safe and may God bless you!

  3. I really liked the quote by Lin Yutang.

It is very warm and humid still down here in s.e. FL. Does NOT feel like November at all. It's not as bad as summer, but it would be nicer if it was cooler, with some chill in the air. :-)

Have a great week ~ FlowerLady

  4. I liked the Lin Yutang quote as well . . .
Pros and cons in almost everything . . . I guess I find something I like in each day . .
Like yesterday I felt a dread at the daunting challenge of Oak leaf removal from my garden beds, lawn . . . yet so appreciative for my very helpful seventeen year old grandson and his willingness and energy to help me . . .
And this morning thinking I need to get back out and meet another day of Oak Leaf challenge I suddenly remembered yesterday and my raucous laughter with a friend.
Guess I will gather up my energy, feel thankful I am still able and "get at it!"
Each day, season, year has its trials . . . yet there are always "the gifts."

  5. I have to vote today, State of Maine. They want more transparently in the
monies. I just have no faith in the politicians, they are not interested in the country just how much Money they can Find any where by any means. Just ask one WHY DO YOU WANT THIS JOB ? If you said would you do it for nothing, or half the wage and no benefits, like most American workers.
Bet the answer would be NO.
    It's a scary world.

boy, aint that the truth!! i just don't get it. ignorance indeed.

it's autumn in northern california. leaves are turning and great mounds of spent ones - crunchy and wonderful - cover our little suburban landscape. it rained yesterday - continuously and steady, bringing with it sustenance for the drought parched earth. i can only hope we have record rainfall this year, though i know it will bring flood and mud slide due to present conditions ..

  7. Hello, dear one. My sentiments exactly about the seasons. Except I do enjoy November, but only because it's not very harsh in my neck of the woods. Here, November feels like October is supposed to be, but isn't. Cool. Winterish, but not quite.

The actor is Sean Bean, if nobody else mentioned it yet. He's a favorite of mine. I like his look and voice. He plays a convincing bad guy too.

Thanks for the poem. I always like autumn poems. I feel somewhat guilty for liking a season that clearly demonstrates death on the way. Death, but resurrection too.

  8. Sandra, it's the same here, it's the same everywhere on election day. My 20 year old grandson, that lives with us, said he thought everyone should have to answer a few questions about our government before voting. That will never happen..
Your weather turns quickly in the mountains--we have yet to have a killing frost--take care of yourself. ♥

  9. Sandra we are starting off mild here too with lots of rain. November seemed to come in a hurry. What happen to October. Well we are enjoying the mild Texas temps. but by watching the squirrels work to stash their winter nuts,we may be in for a cold winter. Have a great week. Blessings, xo

  10. It is mid 60s here this week- we are close to breaking a record from the 1930s. WE are usually in the low to mid 40s. It is just a crazy month here.
Can't believe you have a bit of snow over the hill there. I hope your November will not be a bad one for you. It is not a favorite month to me---but I don't like the dead of winter either...xo Diana

  11. Our weather caught my attention as I notice leaves falling to the ground as the Kansas wind blows really hard. Some days it's so windy, cool and wet and some days have been calmer with blue skies. It's constantly changing. Typical for Kansas. No snow as yet….alright with this. Hoping that snow holds off until Christmas! It's howling outside right now and I need to go to bed.
    Blessings to you,
    d

  12. I love pumpkin but am not too sure about it in my coffee :-), enjoy the Lin Yutang, here the wind is up and huge coloured leaves are filling all our old villages corners, they are dry so rustle as they move along from corner to corner, I love Fall!

  13. Still pretty warm here - a little cool in the mornings but then nice. Although we have had more than our share of rain lately. But yesterday I was driving home in the morning thinking - what a beautiful gray day - it really was. As for elections - I think they are the same in every part of the country - yours sound like ours. Happy Autumn!

  14. The pumpkin flavor seems to be what most businesses need to give them a bit more attention and profit now-a-days.( I am not particularly fond of pumpkin except in pumpkin bread.) After passing several signs proclaiming " pumpkin lattes", "pumpkin donuts " , etc., as we drove through Spokane , WA last month we spotted one sign that said "Pumpkin Tacos!".Before we could express to each other how awful this sounded we read the bottom of the sign that said "JUST KIDDING! ".

Your days at home sound so cozy Sandra, especially since you're already prepared for winter's onslaught.
