TODAY! EAT MOR CHIKN!

~ my boys say...EAT MOR CHIKN! ~
By now, you've heard the bruhaha regarding Mr. Cathy, Chick-fil-A and his support of traditional marriage. Dave always said there would come a time in this country when First Amendment rights would not be tolerated and those who dared speak the convictions of their heart would be branded hate mongers.
That time has come, it is NOW.
Today, August 1, 2012, please try and eat at Chick-fil-A to show your support...of Mr. Cathy's First Amendment Rights. Mr. Cathy and I are in agreement...I also believe in the traditional definition - the Biblical definition - of family...one man, one woman united in marriage. You may not and, even though we disagree, I support YOUR first amendment rights to state otherwise. I urge you, please be tolerant...oh how some HATE that word when we are in disagreement!...and treat others the way you want to be treated.

"They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

My three dogs and I had breakfast there this morning. There was a line around the one in my town by 6 AM. You are so right. If we don't stand up now it will never stop.

  6. Too easy to vocalize hate, too difficult to get educated to understand. Only ignorant people hate. I agree with you, of course, I have always thought Chic-fil-a had the best ads on TV, love those cows...but in this case I think people in the public eye must think before they speak just because the haters will make them & their companies suffer if they don't. Sickening.

  7. The problem is in the world "tolerance. For so very long, gay people in many many instances have not been shown tolerance. My opinion is that people don't CHOOSE their sexual preference, they are what they are....and so if two men or two women want to be a couple, who truly has the right to say that they can't? I am not gay, I'm very happily married to a man.. however I don't think I should be so self-righteous as to tell someone else whether I think they should be a couple, in all aspects of the word.

As for Chic-Fil-A... I'm more concerned with the poor treatment of their chickens and won't support them for that reason.

No offense, Sandra - you have a right to your view and this is your space.

  11. Hope it was a good lunch, Maryann.

MK, like you, it's a hike for me; around 80 miles round trip.

    PomPom, hope it was good.

    Mildred, I hope so too!

Anonymous, the time to speak is long past, now is the time for action.

Marsha, I know a lot of well educated people who hate with a passion. Christ said, "be hot or cold because if you're lukewarm I'll spew you out of my mouth." Mr. Cathy was asked a pointed question; he answered honestly. Surely he's entitled to his First Amendment Rights even when politically incorrect. I don't believe his company will suffer.

Karen, no offense taken and we do disagree. In the 1960's, Time Magazine did an article calling homosexuality "deviant behavior". What changed? The way homosexuals are portrayed in the media.
I disagree...each of us have a choice as to with whom we'll engage in sex. Each of us choose with whom, how often, within or without the boundaries of marriage...each day we choose how to conduct ourselves. No one is "born" a homosexual but I choose to believe the scientific proof that supports this. Others may not.
Karen, you're always welcome to state your opinions here. I welcome discourse even when not in agreement with my own views.

    LDH - good for YOU!

Lea - yes, let's hope and pray Chick-fil-A becomes a stronger company and Mr. Cathy is blessed greatly.

I love the civility and respect that everyone has shown discussing this very controversial topic. I agree, the time for talking is over. I was so proud to see so many people out to support freedom of religion and speech today. I rarely post but enjoy your blog so very much.

  15. I think Mr. Cathy has every right to be a supporter of traditional marriage.

The little town I live in does not have a chik restaurant or I would have been eating chicken.

There's is a huge difference between denying a segment of our population their civil rights and expressing ones first amendment rights. Mr Cathy and the rest of you certainly can have your opinion, no one is denying you that. But when people's opinions discriminate against others and their rights, which is what you are doing, then you are intolerant. In my opinion intolerance is an unforgivable act. You may hid under the guise of the Bible all you want but you are still intolerant and discriminating against a certain segment of society with your rigid beliefs. What out though one day you may be denied certain rights because a segment of society does not believe you should have them. What goes around always comes back around.
