"To the Virgins, to make much of time"

~ Carly Shetland, 19 years old, spends her time snoozing or eating ~

"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry."

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like time has wings on her heels?

Blessings ~ Carly Shetland ~ time ~ rosebuds ~ Robert Herrick ~

  1. Indeed...Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

I still am having problems wrapping my brain around turning 50 in two months.

  3. Ha ha! Yes! Sometimes I'll look at something I own and consider when I bought it, thinking that I haven't had it that long, and I'll realize that ten years have gone by since it was new. Somehow the changing of the seasons makes everything seem new and fresh. Yay!

I was thinking the other day, I'll be 64 in the early spring... where has (especially the last 20) the time gone?? I remember once hearing an interview of Billy Graham, he was asked what surprised him about life, Billy responded, 'How brief it is.' I concur...

  6. I'm feeling the same way about time! So much to do and before I know it the week is over.

  7. Definitely time not only has wings on her heels, but also flies like the Concord.

  8. James 4:13Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit." 14Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that."…

yep - vapor and appearing for a little while - trust that which is eternal 'cause the rest of this stuff moves past so quickly it is hard to keep our eyes focused!

  9. Ah, sweet Carly Shetland dozing there. I wonder if sheep have insomnia as they get old and the joints ache at night?

I have to say that I'm enjoying my old age more than I did my misspent youth. Not that I wouldn't like to go back and do it again, if I could know then what I know now, and know the Lord then as I do now. But I truly appreciate each day now. I wonder what age Herrick was when he wrote this?

  10. Life does pass by too quickly. Next summer I will be 50. How did THAT happen? And tonight is senior night for my daughter. She will play her last volleyball game in our gymnasium. How quickly go the years . . . .
