~ the flock at Thistle Cove Farm ~
"The righteous care for their animals."
~ Proverbs 15:5 ~

My apologies: the above verse is found at Proverbs 12:10 NIVand says, in full, "the righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel."

"God loved the birds and invented trees.  Man loved the birds and invented cages."

whose horse, cat and dog do not feel its benefits.
Life in any form is our perpetual responsibility."
~ S. Parkes Cadman ~

"Why should man expect his prayer for mercy to be heard by What is above him when he shows no mercy to what is under him?"  ~ Pierre Troubetzkoy ~

"We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals." ~ Immanual Kant ~
"Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel."
~ Proverbs 12:10 ESV ~

"If we cut up beasts simply because they cannot prevent us and because we are backing our own side in the struggle for existence, it is only logical to cut up imbeciles, criminals, enemies, or capitalists for the same reasons."  ~ C.S. Lewis ~

"Animals can communicate quite well.  And they do.
And generally speaking, they are ignored." ~ Alice Walker ~

"A Robin Redbreast in a cage
Puts all Heaven in a Rage."

they will be there long before any of us"
~ Robert Louis Stevenson

"Old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to." ~ Joe Gores ~

"If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans" ~ James Herriot ~

"I love cats because I enjoy my home;
and little by little,
they become its visible soul."
~ Jean Cocteau ~

"A dog has lots of friends because he wags his tail and not his tongue." ~ Anonymous ~

"The average dog is a nicer person than the average person." ~ Andrew A. Rooney ~

"I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine."
~ Psalm 50:11 ESV ~

I'm breaking with tradition and ceasing "blessings" on Sabbath Keeping. Now, there will be a "Prayer Keeping" section; if you'd like your name, or initial, added to this list, please let me know either by commenting on this post or by a private e-mail. God knows you by name and knows your needs so just your name, added to each Sabbath Keeping post, will let you be remembered in prayer. I still keep my private prayer list but will not post your name, or initial, publicly unless you request.

  1. amen - may I someday be as good a person as my dog believes me to be. Goodness knows I'd love to have the flexibility of my cat - he is getting old for a cat and still able to jump off the shed roof and walk away -I am getting old for a woman and if I were to jump off the shed - I'd be hauled away!
Thank you for the reminders - birds here are singing their spring songs.

  2. I especially like the Proverbs 12 verse.

Beautiful picture of your sheep Sandra, it looks like one sheep has stuck her head into the huge bale and is wearing it.

Prayers for Japan. There are not words to express the devastation on so many fronts in that tiny island country. 9. earthquake, tsunami, nuclear reactor meltdowns, now a volcano acting up and more devastation every day from the aftershocks.

Prayers for you two for sure!

  3. Sandra, we have 2 very sweet old goldies. Raised them both since they were 6 weeks. The oldest "Scout" turned 16 yesterday and is still doing quite well. Vet said she is over 100 yrs. Your words of wisdom blessed my heart and I couldn't agree more. Thank you for all the Love you share, Blessings, Abbey

  4. "The righteous care for their animals." verse caught my attention so I looked it up but Proverbs 15:5 isn't the correct reference. Could you please check again and let me know what it is?

I agree with the Immanual Kant quote--I knew my husband was a good guy by the way he treated his bird before we got married.

I'd like to recommend a book that I think you'll love about a farm dog. "Rose in the Storm" by Jon Katz. Your picture reminded me of it! Here's a link to our review: http://ourstack.blogspot.com/2011/02/rose-in-storm-by-jon-katz-is-wowie.html

  11. Yes God is the keeper of animals and we are to care for them and love them as well. Your sheep are so gorgious Sandra. Thank you for all of the quotes I love reading these. Please continue to agree with me in prayer for Ryan my adult son for his complete and total deliverance. Thank you. Blessings and continuing to pray for both you and Dave and believing with you.
