Sabbath Keeping

"Give your burdens to the Lord,
and he will take care of you.
He will never let good people down."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~

"People with nothing to declare, carry the most." ~ Jonathan Safran Foer ~
"Duty is heavy as a mountain,
death is light as a feather."
~ Robert Jordan ~
"You think when someone you love passes away, everything becomes clearer, that your priorities and perspectives align in a way they've never aligned before because of the sobriety of it all.
But it doesn't.
Those revelations just become skewed and distorted until you're forced to rewrite them entirely. You can't walk straight on a new path when you have too much luggage on your back. You just keep swerving, trying to find a way to accommodate the weight, but it's all dead and you know it's going to take you down. The only answer is to reroute. "
~ Rachael Wade
"Make sure you don't carry the burden of the whole world on your shoulders, just in case someone needed them to cry." ~ Nema Al-Araby ~
"All I know is that the closer I get to God, the deeper I get into the Bible, and the heavier the burden seems on my shoulders." ~ Tim LaHaye ~
"It is easy to tell the toiler
How best he can carry his pack
But no one can rate a burden's weight
Until it has been on his back."
~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox ~
"Are you in pain, Frodo? said Gandalf quietly as he rode by Frodo's side.
'Well, yes I am,' said Frodo. 'It is my shoulder, the wound aches, and the memory of darkness is heavy on me. It was a year ago today.'
'Alas! there are some wounds that cannot be wholly cured,' said Gandalf.
'I fear it may be so with mine,' said Frodo. 'There is no real going back. Though I may come to the Shire, it will not seem the same, for I shall not be the same. I am wounded with knife, sting and tooth, and a long burden. Where shall I find rest?'
Gandalf did not answer." ~ J. R. R. Tolkien ~
"Our love is our burden." ~ Julianna Baggott ~

"Bear one another's burdens
and so fulfill the law of Christ."

Prayer Keeping ~ unspoken requests ~ Jim ~

  1. One of the themes that I see in these quotes is burden-bearing, which seems so appropriate for Palm Sunday when Christ began his lonely journey to Golgotha for our sakes.

  2. "once asked who was the cup bearer?

not Nehemiah, (my answer), who was cupbearer to the king", he said,

"but Christ, who bore the cup of wrath",

at the time I was a young Christian, and answered his other question about the revelation of John correctly, but he stumped me on this one. I thought he was just being a know it all to me, showing off. I have remembered now for years and thought on it, I believe him now.

"Father, if it be possible, take this cup from me." Nevertheless, not my will, but thine." So thankful he did!

    Blessings down on the farm!

Grief never leaves us...it just gets easier as time passes. Thanks for all the notations!

  4. I'm guilty of carrying the backpack of death since my mother's passing in 1966. The Old Man never let me grieve. There was no obituary, no remembrance allowed, no pictures, no talking about her. After the Old Man finally nastied away I felt relieved. Now I'm working at slowly dropping that burden one moldy 'ol brick at a time. It's getting better every year but the scars sure run deep. "To God be the glory, great things he hath done ..." ~:)

  7. Now to also comment on your Post... I just Love some of those Quotes! Indeed... until it is us we cannot really know can we? True Empathy for burdens must have first been borne by us before we can have any point of reference for what the other may be bearing.

  8. Gretchen, God always seems to lead the quotes in the direction He wants to go.

Annie, Nehemiah is one of my favorite books and prophets; such an amazing story.

Avery Claire, many thanks for your wise words. Grief doesn't seem to be such a heavy burden but it's still a constant burden.

Pam, it takes as long as it takes, doesn't it?

Vic, too cloudy to see the moon tonight but thanks for reminding me.

Bohemian, thank you for visiting Thistle Cove Farm and so glad you enjoyed the quotes.
