Sabbath Keeping

It's a C. S. Lewis kinda day...

"You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body."

"Nothing that you have not given away will every really be yours."

"We are what we believe we are."

"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell."

"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else."

"Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival."

"Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither."

"Eros will have naked bodies; Friendship naked personalities."

"God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself because it is not there. There is no such thing."

"Has this world been so kind to you that you should leave with regret? There are better things ahead than any we leave behind."

"Humans are amphibians - half spirit and half animal. As spirits they belong to the eternal world, but as animals they inhabit time."

"If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next. It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this."

"The safest road to hell is the gradual one - the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts."

  3. I very much like all the quotes, and I am a little bit jealous of your weather. One of my pleasures is a nap on a rainy Sunday. Sigh.....I settled for reading books at pond side where there was a breeze and flock of ducks for comedy relief.

I especially like the quote that begins " a man can no more diminish God' glory..."

    Keeping on Sundays...
    Love the new siggie too!

The vet is coming from the University of Tn on Wed to check on Miss D. Due to circumtances, we did not breed her (oops baby!),and her place of living at that time refused to give us a clear breeding date other than *July*. I will keep you posted, Sandra!

Happy Monday on God's green earth :)

  5. Hi Deanna, you cannot go wrong reading C. S. Lewis! He's a fascinating man as are all the members of the Inklings. My memory is a poor servant but I think that's what they called themselves. Lewis, Sayers, Tolkien and others of that group era. Fascinating!
I HIGHLY recommend The Screwtape Letters as a beginning. I read it almost every year.

Hi Cherie, any day I wake up above ground is a beautiful day!

Hi Kathy, my nap was simply lovely! And long -smile-. That is a great quote; I think I like the one ...ummm...hmmm...aahhh... Nevermind! Like a potatoe chip, I can't just pick one -smile-.

Hi Misha, is Miss D a rescue? I've got a rescue American Curly mare who is, now, beautiful and happy. Thanks for the 'new siggie', I clicked on your sig and went from there...with the additional help from you. Thanks!
