"Recognize to whom you owe the fact that you exist, that you breath, that you understand, that you are wise, and, above all, that you know god and hope for the kingdom of heaven. You have been made a son of God, co-heir with Christ. Where did you get all this, and from whom?... What benefactor has enabled you to look out upon the beauty of the sky, the sun in its course, the circle of the moon, the countless number of stars, with the harmony and order that are theirs, like the music of a harp? Who has blessed you with rain, with the art of husbandry, with different kinds of food, with the arts, with houses, with laws, with states, with a life of humanity and culture, with friendship and the easy familiarity of kinship? ...Is it not God who asks you not in your turn to show yourself generous ... Because we have received from him so many wonderful gifts, will we not be ashamed to refuse him this one thing only, our generosity?" ~ St. Gregory of Nazianzen ~
"You say, 'If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.' You make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled." ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon ~
"Prosperity knits a man to the World. He feels that is "finding his place in it,"
while really it is finding its place in him."

Dei Gratia,
Sandra
Good Sabbath morning, Miss Sandra. I believe I like the quote from St Gregory of Naziazen. It reminds me of when, at the end of the Book of Job were God "questions" Job's demanding that God explain why the things happened to Job. it is one of my favorite scenes of the Bible. Thank you for sharing these quotes. As always, they are thought provoking. Have a great Sunday, from KY.
ReplyDeleteGood Sunday Morning Sandra, Stopping by to wish you a blessed day. That is such a peaceful photo this morning. Wish you were close enough to share a pot of tea with!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Sandra!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your quotes today! I especially love quoting Spurgeon...what a man of God.
And how often is 1 Tim. 6:10 misquoted...it is the LOVE of money...and even a a poor man can be guilty of it.
A most blessed Sunday to you and yours,
Cindy
I am a fan of the Malachi verse - if we only do our part - His part is overwhelming. Thank you for the reminders - none of it is OURS - we are only a temporary steward.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteI like what C.S.Lewis said...it's very true!!
Dearest Sandra, Refreshing day to you.
ReplyDeleteYour time on the porch sounds awesome and I can just imagine the beauty you can feast your eyes on while sitting on the porch.
Wish I could sit there for a while and soak in the morning.
God bless,
d
Wonderful message today, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
~Lisa
all the quotes are so wise, but i especially
ReplyDeletelove the spurgeon one: "if you are not
content with what you have, you would
not be satisfied if it were doubled."
i know many wealthy people who are not
satisfied even though they have so much.
i pray that i will always be grateful for the
abundance but willing to live with much
less.
love,
lea
St, Gregory's and Charles Spurgeon's quotes are the best, and especially St. Gregory's. I think I will copy this and refer to it for myself.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many blessings we have been given we seem to take for granted . We are so richly blessed, aren't we?
That's a lot of quotes for one day! I feel suitably chastised now. Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Star
