Late for Church

I used to tell Dave, "I'm trying" and he'd reply, "You certainly are trying!" One of our little verbal games...that I miss. Generally, when we'd go to church, we'd invariably be late. Not by much, just a minute or two, but late nonetheless. Today was no exception. I was flying down the road...on time for once...when I saw the above critter trying to cross the road. I slammed on the brakes, hit the emergency flashers and jumped out of the car, camera in hand.
He's pitiful and my guess is he fell off his mother while going from hither to thither. I took a couple of photos, motioned traffic to go around and then s/he wandered back into the side of the road brush.
I wish him well.
Then, cow break out! This has been going on for a couple of weeks now. The fences are horrible where these cattle are located and they wander, seemingly at will, back and forth between pasture and road. Everyone is upset but that doesn't seem to count for anything; the cows are still wandering around loose.
So that's why I'm usually late for church; it's just so dang interesting between here and there. So much to see, so much of God's beauty to enjoy, so much of NOW to enjoy.
I visited a new to me church today; the Pastor was enthusiastic, knew his Bible and preached the Word! Then, he stood at the door and greeted people as they left the service. DO WHAT?!!! I'm excited; it's been a while since any of those things happened and yeah, I'm going back.

The humming bird photo is blurry but can you
see all the hummers? Today, I counted ten...10!
flying around the feeder.
They are having a fine ole time, almost as much fun as I'm having simply watching them.
Have you read this Elisabeth Elliott quote? "The fact that I am a woman does not make me a different kind of Christian, but the fact that I am a Christian makes me a different kind of woman."
What kind of woman are you?

Blessings ~ humming birds ~ possums ~ cows ~ Elisabeth Elliott ~ new to me preacher ~ Dave ~

  1. Like the E. Elliott quote very much - definitely true in my life. Love the hummers! Oh Sandra- I know what you mean about all the interesting things to see between here and there - one advantage for me is our roads are so doggoned narrow - can't safely stop and snap pics!

  2. Your post title and photo caught my attention (on Cindy of Farmgirl Cyn's blog sidebar)....I just hopped over from there. What a lovely post. What a blessing that the LORD had you at a church where HIS Word was preached faithfully!! And, I *love* Elisabeth Elliot...her quote is so true! Cows on the road? That never happens here. :)

    Blessings to you!

  3. This quote is very good!!! Thank you :o)!

I am glad you've found this church! And I think every Pastor has to do the same...greeting people...(this should be the normal)
Every Pastor has to know his lambs...:o)))

  4. I am a woman . . . and believe in a whole lots of things . . .

I would have stopped too, poor baby and not very pretty. Love the cows in the road, baby possum, made it to church, and that you liked the new church and pastor. Sounds like a great day to me.

    Love your Hummers . . .

  5. That is one of my favorite quotes from E.E. the first time I heard it I was a new Christian and had no idea what a Christian woman looked like, being a card carrying member of the N.O.W. So it was quite a jolt for me and I knew I wanted to be the kind that looked like Elisabeth Elliot.
I love your drive to church, it sounds like my kind of adventures. :)

  6. I've heard that quote before, and I'll add my answer as "yes, I'm a Christian woman, too."

Cute little fella crossing the road - poor thing. I hope he finds his mama.

I think you can find all kinds of interesting things between here and there - wherever you may be! I love your cow picture!

  7. Sweet Summer Blessings to you!
May all your trips be interesting like this one! and no hitting any cows. That would do way too much damage.
    God bless you real good,

  8. Wow. All kinds of nature-y type traffic jams in your area. lol!

I bet they all bring a smile to your face :)

  9. So many blessings put in your path. Happy (late) Sunday to you!

  10. What is your secret to getting 10 (!!!) hummingbirds in your feeder? I get one, then maybe, if I am really lucky, one more might buzz by and squeak at the other one. But 10?? That is too cool!

  11. Great ride to church! And a wonderful quote! Your new vicar sounds very promising!
    Hugs and blessings!

  12. A good reason to be late, indeed.

The new church sounds promising. YEAH.

  13. lovely post :) Have a great week.

  14. It's sad that finding a church where the pastor preaches from the Word and knows it well, is hard to find these days. Most people want their ears tickled. No thanks..Give me the Gospel In all it's glory!!

    Great post....

  15. I try to leave a place a little better than when I found it... help a person or be kind in any way possible even when a person makes that difficult... and I'm still evolving to be the kind of woman I want to be...

  16. You are so brave! I wouldn't have stopped! I'm afraid of all animals. I hate being late for church, even if it is a minute or two, but it happens from time to time with us as well. Enjoy your day!

  17. here's to preaching from the Word!!! awesome that he greets you as well.. love that.

poor wee possum. hope he finds his mama..

  18. What a funny wee he a 'possum? He doesn't look like anything I know! Unlike your cows ; ) How wonderful to have hummingbirds...what do you feed them..sugar water? Lovely hills in the background..what are the trees? You sound comfy in your own skin just now Sandra...really nice to hear your buoyancy. Much love Catherine x0x

  19. Well..I just read a long slew of your posts instead of trundling off to early I am a tired woman at this point, but grateful to see your vulnerability, humility and creativity humming along in praise and prattle.

Blessing sin the name of Jesus,

  20. You are very blessed to live in such a beautiful place. I tell myself...someday....someday!!

  21. I slam on the brakes too when I come upon a's worth being late to Church for that, and the new Church sounds great! Was thinking of you last week when I met some folks from the American Farmland Trust and wondered if you knew about them. All best~

  22. Those were some valid reasons for being a little late to church :)

I am so envious of all the hummers you have at your feeder. I must have some territorial birds because I have never seen more than two on the feeder at one time. They are so mean when other birds approach.

Thank you for visiting Thistle Cove Farm; may God bless you, yours and the work of your hands and heart. My goal is to respond, here, to your comments although it may take a while.
